For Janjep Carlos, failure was never an option as he attempted winning Mr Gay World Philippines twice before eventually taking out the title this year.

The 41-year-old actually competed first in 2016, the year won by John Rasppado who eventually went on to be the first Asian delegate to win the Mr Gay World crown in Spain.

“Pageantry in our country [The Philippines] is taken seriously,” Carlos explained to Gay Nation.

“You have to be prepared mentally, emotionally, and physically. Lacking one aspect from here will make you weak.

“I think I excel because I make myself ready.”

Already a seasoned traveller, Carlos has already visited South Africa, the home of Mr Gay World 2019, and said he is excited about the competition and to meet his fellow delegates.

“The fact that I am representing my country in the world’s most prestigious pageant for gay men is already an achievement that makes me so proud and excited.

“Meeting the whole group of Mr Gay World 2019 adds to that excitement.

“I’m looking forward to meeting this bunch of amazing people from all over the world, to share this world-class experience that will make a memory to keep for a lifetime.”

Janjep Carlos, who lives in General Trias, just south of the Capital City Manilla, will be tackling Mental Health Awareness as his social cause and believes with love and understanding for those undergoing depression this illness can be turned into wellness.

“I am currently partnering with Mental Health PH an organisation that promotes mental health awareness throughout social media.

“Recently I visited The Cape Mental Health in South Africa. A mental rehabilitation facility treating people in impoverished communities.

“Be informed, reach out to people with depression, together we can turn this illness to wellness.”

Carlos believes his charm and positivity will be the thing that sets him apart from his fellow delegates at the Mr Gay World finale.

“I can say it’s my charm. There are things we cannot really explain how it happens, but we just feel it.

“Like my connection to most of the people, I am dealing with. I can let them feel that I am sincere with anything I say or to any task I am committed to.

“I am a very positive person and I let that shine and this I think will make me a stand out.

Mr Gay World Philippines will join more than twenty others from around the globe for Mr Gay World in Cape Town South Africa from April 28 to May 4 and Gay Nation will be there to cover all the action.
