RY Chat

A new anonymous online support service for any person in Aotearoa aged 13-27 has been launched by RainbowYOUTH.

The new chat support service aims to help individuals who are looking for guidance, support, or advice around sexuality, gender identity, and intersex status.

RainbowYOUTH says the service is ideal for both a young person who is looking for some support for themselves, or someone who is supporting a young person.

“We’d love to hear from whānau, friends, teachers – anyone who needs to chat!”

The online chat support will be active from 2-4 pm, Monday-Friday.

RainbowYOUTH has provided some FAQ Below:

What platform do you use?

We use a live chat platform – just click on the purple icon in the bottom right corner of the page!

Who am I talking to?

We have a team of trained support workers who you would be talking to. Click here to find out who our team is!

How does it work?

All you need to do is message us using the chat button on the bottom right corner of the page. Once you send us a message, someone from our support team will get back to you!

Is it anonymous?

Absolutely – we don’t collect any details about you, the only thing that is captured is your IP address. If you want to get more support, we’ll ask to get some details from you such as your email address. Once we’ve finished chatting we immediately archive your messages. Our messaging software is password protected and only available for RY’s support team to access.

Please note*

Because we’re trying to be available to as many people as possible, we might only be able to chat with you for 10-15 minutes. If we have lots to discuss, we might ask for your email so that our support team can provide you with everything you need.

If you’re in a crisis please dial 111, or contact your local mental health crisis team. If you are experiencing a lot of distress we will tell you who you need to call as our team cannot provide emergency assistance ourselves.
