The former NSW Police Officer Matthew Cameron has pleaded not guilty to all sexual assault charges in the NSW District Court.

The case, that Gay Nation first reported back in June, involving allegations of rape and sexual assault, has now been sent to trial, with the proceedings expected to run for three weeks in November 2025.

Cameron, 31, was charged with a total of 10 counts, including one count of sexual intercourse without consent and nine counts of sexual touching without consent. The alleged incidents involved several fellow police officers, with one victim allegedly sexually assaulted on multiple occasions between 2022 and 2023.

The court has heard that the alleged incidents occurred at various locations, including a pub, a campsite in southern NSW, a private address in Dee Why, an eatery and an RSL club in Manly, and an address in Manly Vale.

Cameron, who is openly gay and has been involved in community services such as volunteering for St John Ambulance and participating in a Marriage Equality photoshoot, resigned from the police force at the end of 2023. The NSW Police Force Professional Standards unit had been investigating him since mid-2023, leading to his charging in May 2024.

Since his resignation, Cameron has been living at a Pokolbin address in the Hunter Valley under strict conditional bail.

In a statement provided by NSW Police back in June, they defended their decision not to issue a media release about Cameron’s arrest in May. Given the spotlight placed on internal NSW Police activities following the murder of Jessie Barid and Luke Davies earlier in the year by a serving police officer, their failure to be upfront with the public was baffling.

“There are times when the NSWPF do not release information on investigations, arrests or court proceedings for operational reasons, which could include information which may hinder or jeopardise an investigation,” the statement read.

With his plea of not guilty, the case will now proceed to a readiness hearing in October before the trial date of 17 November 2025.
