More details have been presented to court about charges of alleged rape and sexual assault by former NSW Police Officer Matthew Cameron.
As Gay Nation reported in June, the openly gay Cameron was charged with one count of sexual intercourse without consent and seven counts of sexual touching without consent.
In a second hearing at Manly Local Court this week the court was provided with documents that showed police allege that a total of three people were the alleged victims of sexual touching, including the person who was also allegedly raped. That person was allegedly sexually touched on two separate occasions.
It will be alleged that as well as being sexually touched at the pub, that person was also sexually assaulted at a campsite in southern NSW in July 2022.
Police will also allege a second person was sexually touched at a private address at Dee Why in 2022 and then again at an “eatery” in Manly and at an RSL club in April 2023.
The third complainant was allegedly sexually touched at an address in Manly Vale in June 2022. All of the alleged victims were fellow police officers.
Cameron, 31, who has volunteered for St John Ambulance in the past was also a part of a Marriage Equality photoshoot in the lead-up to the Marriage Equality plebiscite in 2017.
The alleged actions of inappropriate behaviour by Cameron, a Constable at the time, have been investigated by the NSW Police Force Professional Standards unit since mid-2023 and this led to his charging in May 2024.
Cameron resigned from the force at the end of 2023.
The former police constable remains on strict conditional bail to live at a Pokolbin address, in the Hunter Valley. No plea has been entered for any of the eight charges and they will next be heard at Downing Street Local Court in September.
