Republicans in the U.S State of Virginia have turned against one of their own representatives following his proud officiating of a same-sex wedding.
Republican Congressperson, Denver Riggleman has represented Virginia’s 5th congressional district since 2018, however, has now seen his party turn against him.
“Love is love,” Riggleman’s wife posted on Facebook as the couple celebrated a “fabulous gay summer wedding” with friends, family, and the Congressperson in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains last year.
However, following the public support for the couple, three GOP county committees have since voted to censor Riggleman, and is now facing a challenge for the Republican nomination for the upcoming election.
Unfortunately for Riggleman, as a result of the district committee voting to pick the next congressional nominee through a convention rather than a primary, Riggleman’s position will actually be determined by the votes of other elected delegates, as opposed to the public.
Robert Good who is challenging Riggleman for the position says he has a “biblical view of marriage,” opposes a “transgender bathroom mandate,” and says he will defend “religious freedom” and “Judeo-Christian principles” if he wins.
Good’s who currently has 62% of the district’s delegates on his side also claims Riggleman doesn’t represent the “conservative values of this district.”
