Just a few weeks after celebrating his 31st birthday, Spanish singing superstar Pablo Alborán has shared a video in which he announced his coming out as gay to his fans.
“I have something to tell you,” announced Pablo Alborán in the caption of his most recent Instagram post, shared on June 17 with his 5.5 million subscribers.
The Hispanic singer is a huge star in Spain as well as in Latin America, where he is frequently at the top of the charts with his many singles.
But this time, it was not to talk about music that he spoke to his community: according to a short video, he comes out and fully assumes his preference for guys.
“I’m here to tell you that I am homosexual,” he said.
“And it’s OK! Life goes on, nothing will change except that I will be a little happier than what I was already.
“Since I was fortunate enough to grow up in a house where I had the freedom to be who I wanted to be and do what I wanted to do, I was always encouraged to fight for my dreams.
“But unfortunately, many have not had the same experience as me. This is precisely why, today, I hope to facilitate someone’s journey with my message. But above all, I do this for myself.”
In the hours following the posting of his touching video, the Malaga-born artist received the support of many Spanish and Latin personalities in the comments below his initial post.
Starting with Ricky Martin in person.
“Life is too short to live half,” said the Puerto Rican artist.
“Many souls go through this life without accepting their true nature and it is sad. This battle, you won it. What are you lucky!
“You don’t know how many men and women you have helped with this video.”
Other artists from the Spanish-speaking scene have expressed their support for the singer, such as Laura Pausini, Mónica Naranjo or even Jesús Mosquera, the star of Toy Boy.
