To celebrate Bisexual Awareness Week, Eikon has put together a list of 10 celebrities you may not have known were Bisexual.
Bisexual Awareness week (21st – 27th September) is a celebration of the 16th anniversary of ‘Celebrate Bisexuality Day’ which is held every 23rd September. Bisexual Awareness Week (#biweek) works to accelerate the cultural acceptance of bisexual people.
10. Drew Barrymore
Actress Drew Barrymore has been frank and open about her sexuality during several interviews in the early 2000’s
“Do I like women sexually? Yeah, I do. Totally. I have always considered myself bisexual.”
And… “Being with a woman is like exploring your own body, but through someone else. When I was younger I used to go with lots of women. Totally. I love it.”
9. Angelina Jolie
When asked in a 2003 interview if she was bisexual, actress Angelina Jolie responded directly with “Of course.”
8. Amy Winehouse
Friends of late musician, Amy Winehouse report her saying in 2010, “So what? I like girls as well. I have had relationships with other women but that doesn’t mean I don’t still love Blake.”
7. Anna Paquin
During a 2009 interview Anna Paquin said “For me, it’s not really an issue because I’m someone who believes being bisexual is actually a thing. It’s not made up. It’s not a lack of decision”
6. Andy Dick
Often assumed to be gay, Actor Andy Dick said to the Washington Post, “Just because I’ve been with guys … and I’m bi … doesn’t mean I’m gay.”
5. Cynthia Nixon
Cynthia Nixon doesn’t like to use the term ‘bisexual’ the Sex and the City star explains, “I don’t pull out the ‘bisexual’ word because nobody likes the bisexuals. Everybody likes to dump on the bisexuals… We get no respect.”
4. David Bowie
During an interview with Playboy in 1976, music legend David Bowie was completely up-front: “It’s true, I am a bisexual … I’ve used that fact very well. I suppose it’s the best thing that ever happened to me. Fun, too.”
3. Kesha
28 year old musician Kesha explained how she views love and relationships to The Huffington Post: “I love people. It’s not about a gender. It’s just about the spirit that exudes from that other person you’re with.”
2. Marlon Brando
During a interview in 1976, late actor Marlon Brando explained, “Homosexuality is so much in fashion it no longer makes news. Like a large number of men, I, too, have had homosexual experiences and I am not ashamed. I have never paid much attention to what people think about me.” He concluded “There is someone who is convinced that Jack Nicholson and I are lovers, may they continue to do so. I find it amusing.”
1. Billie Joe Armstrong
Green Day singer Billie Joe Armstrong said In a 1995 interview with The Advocate, “I think I’ve always been bisexual. I mean, it’s something that I’ve always been interested in. I think people are born bisexual, and it’s just that our parents and society kind of veer us off into this feeling of ‘Oh, I can’t.’ They say it’s taboo. It’s ingrained in our heads that it’s bad, when it’s not bad at all. It’s a very beautiful thing.”
