A little gem has emerged on the northern side of the harbour bridge in Sydney.
Walsh Bay is known for its funky wharf apartments, performance studios and Pier One Marriott Hotel but very few would say to head there for a beer, wine or a lovely meal….until now.
Nestled amongst the Marriott is The Gantry, from the moment you step inside you feel like this is the place for great night.
It has only been The Gantry for a few months but in that time the inside restaurant that features a large middle bar and outside deck has received lots of attention and plaudits.
The Canadian-born chef Chris Irving, who also worked alongside Gordon Ramsay in his UK restaurants has brought to Sydney his unique style of cuisine and on first tasting it certainly hits the mark.
I was lucky to spend a couple of hours tasting some of the smaller bar delights while enjoying a beer in the relaxed bar. The buzz of the restaurant was palpable as the place was brimming with food lovers, even on a Tuesday night.
The Gantry is perfectly placed for those wanting to have the best views of the harbour without the hustle and bustle of Circular Quay and to have it attached to the Marriott makes it the ultimate place for a visit from anyone outside of Sydney.
To celebrate the diversity of Australian and NSW produce, The Gantry has developed a Wine Dinner Series where they match a four-course set menu to wine from a local area of the State.
This month the Orange region of NSW will be paired with Swinging Bridge Winery who will showcase their yield.
Teaming up with Sydney’s favourite patisserie; Black Star Pastry, a decadent menu will feature. Knowledge on provenance will be shared throughout the evening by Executive chef, Chris Irving, Black Star Pastry Chefs, Eddie Stewart and Samuel Yeo, along with Swinging Bridge.
Irving, who has a wealth of International accolades having served four years with Gordon Ramsay Group.
“At the Gantry we are all about appreciating where the food comes from and the people who produce it,” said Chef Irving.
“We create honest and authentic experiences championing the great craftsmanship within our state.
“It’s the perfect way to bring excellent food, amazing wines and great company together.”
Famous for their mouth-watering desserts, the team at Black Star Pastry are incorporating some of their finest breads, pastries and cakes throughout the evening, working closely with Irving to devise unique menus each month.
Eddie Stewart, Chef from Black Star Pastry said it was wonderful to work with Chris Irving who is so passionate about local produce and wine.
“I feel this really speaks to the diverse range and quality that we are fortunate enough to have in New South Wales,” Chef Stewart said.
“All the producers involved share similar values, priding ourselves on quality and sustainability and what better place that this iconic location at Pier One looking over the Sydney Harbour.”
The collaboration will come together on Wednesday June 24 from 6:30pm. Tickets are $130 per person and bookings are essential.
