An 18-year-old horticulture student has been elected the new Mr. Gay Belgium following a gala event in Antwerp on the weekend.
Jaimie Deblieck, from the western Belgium city of Roeselare, successfully won the title seeing off eleven other challengers in the final.
Deblieck succeeds Raf Van Puymbroeck and will go on to represent Belgium in Mr. Gay Europe 2017 and Mr. Gay World in 2018.
In its fifth year, the Mr. Gay Belgium competition is now one of the shining lights, taking many months to find a winner after more than 100 applications.
Jaimie Deblieck is a student of horticulture and is now specialising in garden layout and maintenance.
He is eager to champion LGTBI rights in the workplace.
Gerrit Noerens, a lifestyle coach from Welle and Ignace De Wolf, an ergo therapy student from Genk were ranked second and third in the competition.
In a Facebook post following the victory, Deblieck was still in shock at winning the title.
“I still can’t believe it,” Deblieck said in his Facebook post.
“I don’t know where to start, first and foremost I want everyone who supported me, voted for me and who believed in me thank so much.
“A sincere congratulations to first runner-up Gerrit Noerens and second runner-up Ignace De Wolf! With them, by my side, we go together on the way to a society where tolerance, tolerance, and respect are central.
“A society where LGBTs can be without fear and be themselves because yes, it could be so much better!
“I’m not gonna disappoint, I promise!”
