David at Grand Mirage Resort & Thalasso Spa Bali
2 min read

It might sound a little bit cliche for an Aussie to shake off the winter blues by escaping to the warm sunny beaches of Bali, but for my first trip to the island, I thought I would buck the trend and trade in the hustle and bustle of busy Seminyak for a more chilled vibe on the southeastern coast in Nusa Dua.

What I needed was a break away from work and everyday life, a complete switch off from having to even think. A place right on the beach where I had the option to do as much or as little as I pleased. Where I could read a book by the pool whilst working on my severely lacking tan or experience some of the natural beauty Bali has to offer.

That’s when I discovered the luxurious Grand Mirage Resort & Thalasso Spa where I spent the first 3 nights of my cheeky little getaway.

Only 20 minutes from the airport, the Grand Mirage Resort is impressive from the instant you enter the grounds and step into the lobby. This was not to be outdone until heading up to the suite which boasted dual balconies overlooking the pool and private beach making for a stunning place to watch the sunrise.

The best decision I made was to book the all-inclusive package, which meant that all of the meals and drinks were taken care of, available to use in all 8 restaurants and 2 bars located within the resort. That way I didn’t have to worry about charging items back to the room or carrying around my wallet the entire time!

With no shortage of options from Chinese to Italian to Indian, my favourite had to be Ibu Kitchen or ‘Mama’s Kitchen’ which served authentic and absolutely delicious Indonesian food, including of course traditional sate skewers cooked over charcoal for which Bali is famous for.

Not only food and drinks, but non-motorised activities such as paddle boarding and kayaking were also part of the inclusive package with games such as giant chess boards, table tennis, air hockey and pool volleyball all catered to keep you occupied.

But amongst all the fun and games I decided to take some time to myself and visit the Thalasso Spa where I couldn’t settle for just one type of massage, but had to explore the whole menu with one every single day! With super friendly staff, a luxurious vibe and the option for both indoor and outdoor massages, I left each time nothing short of … well, relaxed!

Finishing each day sipping on a fresh and fruity cocktail in the adults-only infinity edge pool looking out over the ocean, truly made me feel like I was in paradise. I didn’t want to leave the Grand Mirage Resort after the incredible hospitality experienced but I was excited about the next place booked in the itinerary.

Samabe Bali Suites and Villas here I come!
