Eurovision, the world’s largest and most flamboyant song contest, might just get some Minogue-level glamour if Dannii Minogue decides to don the green and gold for Australia in 2024.
While it’s still early days, whispers and hopes are swirling around the prospect, fueled by Minogue’s repost of a tweet by the official Eurovision account on X regarding the reveal of the stage design.
In reposting the tweet Minogue also commented “The stage is set…and the countdown has begun!”
With the official Eurovision account tweeting right back to Minogue, “I… begin to wonder”
This could follow the recent announcement of UK superstar Ollie Alexander heading to Sweden to represent the UK this year. Following Minogue’s repost, Alexander tweeted a face with crossed-out eyes emoji.
Australia’s Eurovision journey has been relatively short, but it’s been packed with glitter, sequins, and some seriously catchy tunes. From the pop sensibilities of Jessica Mauboy to Kate Miller-Heidke’s operatic brilliance, our Antipodean entries have consistently delivered show-stopping performances that have won over hearts and votes across Europe. And who better to carry on this legacy than Minogue, a bona fide pop princess with a career spanning over three decades and a discography overflowing with dancefloor anthems?
Dannii Minogue is a singer, presenter, and actress and sister of Kylie and Brendan. Her career began in the 1980s in the Australian Children’s talent show Young Talent Time and is still going strong today. She has released numerous albums and singles and her success has extended beyond Australia’s borders. She has served as a judge on several music talent shows, including The X Factor UK! She recently hosted a gay BBC dating show called I Kissed a Boy.
More Than Just a Dream
While Dannii Minogue herself hasn’t confirmed her interest in Eurovision, there have been some tantalizing hints from her sister. In a recent interview, Kylie admitted to being a big fan of the contest. And with SBS, Australia’s Eurovision broadcaster, reportedly keen on securing her, the stars could just be aligning for her sister to make a Eurovision moment. Or could they be preparing a duo?
Of course, there are still hurdles to overcome. Both Minogues’ busy schedule and the intense commitment required for Eurovision are potential roadblocks. But one thing’s for sure: the mere idea of Dannii Minogue taking on Eurovision has sent shivers of excitement down the spines of pop fans and Eurovision tragics alike.
Sweden Gets Ready
All of this came as the Swedish Broadcaster revealed detailed graphics of the stage and lighting design for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024 taking place at Malmö Arena, Sweden.
Movable LED cubes, LED floors, light, video and stage technology will combine to create some spectacular variations in the arena, while the stage is placed right in the middle of the audience, shaped like a cross, creating a unique 360-degree experience that the audience and viewers will get to experience in May.
Ebba Adielsson, Executive Producer, said it was with great pride that they presented their vision of the stage and lighting design for the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.
“We have not seen anything like this before at Eurovision and the concept gives us endless opportunities to create unique spaces and expressions for both the competing artists and the opening and interval acts.
“Florian Wieder, Production Designer, and Fredrik Stormby, Light and Screen Content Designer’s creation is simply fantastic and it will be so much fun to see the end result!’
