Christmas is the time of year to celebrate and indulge in food, fun and a little bit of extra Christmas cheer. As is the Eikon tradition we thought it only fair to follow traditions of Christmas’ past and give our readers some extra eye candy before the big day arrives.

Welcome to Eikon’s 12 Gays of Christmas.

Gay 12 – Sam Smith

Sam SmithOn this very special day, what better way to spend it than listening to a Sam Smith album and that’s why Sam is our 12th and final Gay of Christmas.

This is Sam’s second appearance in our 12 gays of Christmas after listing at number 12 last year.

Sam stole the show at the Academy Awards earlier in the year when he won an Oscar for Best Song in co-writing The Writing’s On The Wall from Spectre.

But it was in his acceptance speech where he caused controversy in the LGBT space by suggesting he was the first openly gay winner of an Oscar.

“I read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellan and he said that no openly gay man had ever won an Oscar. If this is the case – even if it isn’t the case – I want to dedicate this to the LGBT community all around the world,” Smith said in his acceptance speech.

In fact, he had his quotes mixed up and there were actually three before him including Dustin Lance Black who then unleashed on Sam via twitter suggesting Sam should find out who he is before he makes those sorts of statements and “It may be time to stop texting my fiance.”

Apologies were made and everyone moved on and so did Sam Smith who toured throughout 2016 and appeared across the globe on TV everywhere.

Merry Christmas Sam, we hope you have a lovely relaxing holiday and can’t wait to hear your new music in 2017.
