Fast-rising New Zealand pop singer-songwriter Luca George has dropped his new single Blue Again at the same time that he got to spend a week at an exclusive song-writing camp in Sydney with Troye Sivan.

The latest single, the first song from his debut EP which is due out in June, was put together alongside fellow Kiwi producer Josh Fountain who is known for developing and co-writing the breakout hits of NZ’s most recent global export Benee.

George is a 19-year-old pop singer/songwriter and horticulturist from Wanaka in the South Island of New Zealand, who funded his initial music-making activities by cultivating and selling rare and exotic plants.

With recent live shows under his belt (supporting the likes of Callum Scott, Harper Finn) ‘Blue Again’ kicks 2023 off in a massive way after spending a week at the exclusive SongHubs song-writing camp in Sydney during WorldPride.

SongHubs is a short, intensive songwriting camp bringing together songwriters from across the globe. It provides the opportunity for writers to collaborate on new commercially viable songs and George was the only participant chosen from New Zealand.

George was able to learn from one of Australia’s most successful songwriters and pop stars Troye Sivan and Entertainment industry veteran Lucas Keller.

Speaking about his latest single, Luca George said Blue Again is all about a toxic relationship.

“Everyone, including my own Mother, told me it wasn’t good for me….but I kept going back, thinking the next time would be different,” George said.

“Blue represents sadness but it’s also the colour of bruises and it’s like every time this person and I reconnected it would leave me with these emotional bruises. I would feel blue again.

“Ultimately I knew that it could never last forever but I think we all have these relationships in our lives, ones we wish so bad to salvage. At the end of the day we just need to cut our losses…..but I haven’t really figured out how to do that yet so I wrote a song about it.”

Luca is the first New Zealand artist to be signed with Platoon, the London-based artist development company known for the early-stage career development of artists including Billie Eilish, Holly Humberstone, YEBBA, Jorja Smith and many more.
