Enigmatic alt-pop artist Luca George has today released his latest single, ‘Before You Hold Me‘, a raw and emotive exploration of body image, self-doubt, and vulnerability.
The track, co-written with Gabrielle Aplin and Joseph Wander (Lewis Capaldi, Cian Ducrot, The 1975), delves into the intricate physical and mental journey people go through before allowing someone into their lives.
The song reveals George’s deepest thoughts, reflecting on the desire for a more ideal body and the challenge of embracing one’s own beauty. The lyrics, “Before you hold me, I need a better body, I need to stop believing that I’m pretty when I’m not,” offer a candid insight into the cycle of rejection and self-doubt that many, including Luca, face.
“I’ve suffered with body dysmorphia my whole life,” George said. “I have all of these rules for myself before I let someone hold me whether it’s a hookup situation or dating or just being vulnerable with someone. This song is all the stuff that I do, the whole process before letting someone hold me.”
The official video, shot in Los Angeles and produced and directed by Landon Juern and Luke Shaw for Altar8, is layered with emotion, providing a visual accompaniment to Luca George’s poignant lyrics.
‘Before You Hold Me’ arrives as George prepares for his first international show, opening for Peach PRC at her sold-out London show at Electric Brixton on October 4th.
Signed to Island Australia, Luca George has previously been distributed through Platoon, known for their early-stage career development of superstar Billie Eilish.
Independently, George has accumulated 6 million total artist streams and generated a social audience of 60,000 followers with 1 million listeners. His debut EP “You’ll Never Know Me Sober” has amassed 4.9 million streams to date, with the single ‘Suit of Blue’ receiving a nomination at the 2024 Silver Scroll Awards (NZ).
His talent has not gone unnoticed, with Troye Sivan hand-picking him as the only New Zealand artist to take part in an APRA SongHubs songwriting camp. Rolling Stone Magazine also named him one of the Future25, highlighting his sugary vocals, natural charisma, and melancholic yet hopeful pop aesthetics – qualities that helped Sivan rise to the top.
‘Before You Hold Me’ is a powerful testament to George’s artistry, offering a beacon of hope and relatability to those struggling with similar issues. As we eagerly await his upcoming performances, it’s clear that Luca George is a force to be reckoned with in the alt-pop scene.
