In a world where so much depends on someone’s network, and whose heart beats for whom, sometimes the most enduring love stories come from the most unlikely of circumstances.
The brand new Australian production of Salted Pretzels will premiere at The Blue Room Theatre this October in Perth.
Structurally sophisticated, this romantic comedy of errors is a heart-bursting modern celebration of identity, self-discovery, and authentically interrogates the complexities of falling in love during the messiest – and saltiest – of times.
Written by a Queer-First Nations young artist Cezera Critti-Schnaars, a proud Greek-Nyoongar theatre maker whose passion for theatre started in her childhood. As a teenager, she branched out into writing her own work, participating in Yirra Yaakin Writer’s Group.
Cezera completed the Aboriginal Performance Course at WAAPA (Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts) in 2018. Since then, she has worked with a number of companies in both acting and directing roles.
Joining Cezera on stage delivering Salted Pretzels is a diverse and enthusiastic team including Tristan McInnes, Ray Teakle, Maitland Schnaars.
Salted Pretzels demands a high level of technical storytelling and after being in development for over three years, the programming opportunity at The Blue Room Theatre provides an exciting platform to premiere this work.
“Salted Pretzels is a testament to the excellence of contemporary First Nations-led theatre – work that is complex, funny, awkward, layered, diverse, and real,” R. Kingdom-Barron, Program Manager at The Blue Room Theatre.
