The Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir (SGLC) is gearing up for one of its biggest productions yet. Prepare to be transported back to a time of big hair and even bigger anthems with “Back to the 80s,” a jukebox concert featuring beloved hits from the decade.
The performance takes place on Saturday, June 8th at the Seymour Centre in Sydney as part of the June long weekend festivities. Audiences can expect a dazzling spectacle featuring 100 singers, a live five-piece band, and, of course, fabulous 80s-inspired costumes.
Musical Director Adam Majsay promises a night filled with nostalgia
“It’s a blast from the past from start to finish injected with SGLC’s signature sparkle,” he said.
The program boasts a selection of instantly recognisable crowd-pleasers, from Madonna and Cyndi Lauper to Queen and Bonnie Tyler.
“The music of the 1980s seems to have an almost universal appeal.
“Whether you were burning up the dancefloor in the 80s, or were not even born yet, the songs of Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Queen, Bonnie Tyler are instant crowd favourites, at the karaoke machine, in the nightclubs, at the pub, and, for one night only, on stage with Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir. ,” said Majsay.
More than just a concert, “Back to the 80s” celebrates the SGLC’s rich history as a vibrant force within Sydney’s LGBTQI community.
Founded in 1991, the choir is a welcoming space for singers of all backgrounds and abilities, united by a love of music and a commitment to excellence.
