In the highly anticipated film adaption of Casey McQuiston’s bestselling romance novel Red, White & Royal Blue, actors Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine have been cast as the leading men.

Taylor will play Alex Claremont-Diaz, the son of the President of the United States while Nicholas steps into the royal shoes of Prince Henry of England.

Red, White & Royal Blue follows the star-crossed, secret romance between the two high-profile young men after they meet at a state dinner and eventually fall for one another.

Nicholas already has a bit of royal experience, having played the Prince Robert to Camila Cabello’s Cinderella in the 2021 live-action film. And you might recognize Taylor from The Kissing Booth 2 & 3 — he played Elle’s love interest Marco Valentin Peña.

The 2019 novel hit the New York Times bestseller list shortly after it was published, and Amazon snapped up the film rights thereafter.

McQuiston said they are excited to see their beloved novel come to life on the big screen.

“It has been a thrill to hand this story over to Berlanti/Schechter, Amazon and our fearless leader Matthew López and watch them make so many smart, bold, thoughtful choices to bring it to life,” McQuiston said.

“This casting is no exception. I absolutely can’t wait to see Taylor and Nicholas on screen as Alex and Henry.”

Director Matthew López is equally thrilled about his new stars — and it sounds like many young actors were hoping to score these coveted parts.

“Meeting with and auditioning literally hundreds of actors over these past several months has been a painstaking labour of love that has brought us this diverse and extraordinary cast, led so fantastically by Nick and Taylor,” López told Variety of the process.

“I cannot wait for the fans of the book (and indeed for the world) to find out how remarkably gifted and perfect these two actors are for bringing Henry and Alex to life.”

Alongside the two men, Hollywood legend Uma Thurman has been cast as President Ellen Claremont. Stephen Fry, Ellie Bamber, Clifton Collins Jr., and more have also been announced to be joining the gay rom-com.

The film is set to enter production this month.
