An Australian drummer now based in New York City has created a star-studded musical event to raise money for the LGBTQ youth of his new home.

“Express Yourself” is the brain child of Simon Fishburn, who in the midst of New York’s brutally long and cold winter just past, came across a Facebook post about the Hetrick-Martin Institute pantry wishlist winter appeal.

Totally moved and inspired to want to contribute to the youth of his community (but not even having two pennies to rub together himself,) Simon, along with recording artist Samia XI, came up with this the idea for this one-night-only concert in New York City.

The evening’s talented singers will perform songs by artists who personally inspired them to launch a career in the arts.

Headlining performers include: Billy Lewis Jr (Glee), Samantha Marie Ware (Glee), Jaime Cepero (Smash) and Gregory Haney (Bring It On, Broadway).

The concert will be held on Monday 24 August, from 6.30pm and will be held at the Rockwood Music Hall in NYC.

Fellow organiser and performer Samia XI said the they have a responsibility to give these kids all the support they can which is the mission of HMI.

“In our society, queer kids are often placed at a huge disadvantage, with many kids being cut off from financial and emotional support purely because of who they are,” Samia XI said.

“I’m performing in this concert because I believe passionately in that mission: creating real positive change in the lives of children who desperately need it.

“By raising funds for HMI, we are helping real people reach their potential.”

All proceeds will be donated to the Arts & Culture Department of the Hetrick-Martin Institute, which specializes in “Empowerment, Education and Advocacy for LGBTQ Youth.”

The Arts & Culture programs offered by HMI fosters self-expression through dance, film, photography, painting, theater and more, to help kids reach their full potential in a safe and supportive environment.

Eikon supports community events anywhere in the world, please support this great night if you in or around NYC next week.
