The first openly gay US cabinet member, Pete Buttigieg, has announced the arrival of two children Penelope and Joseph.
In social media posts on the weekend Buttigieg, 39, and his husband Chasten, 32, were shown sitting in what appears to be a hospital room, each cradling a baby and smiling.
“Chasten and I are beyond thankful for all the kind wishes since first sharing the news that we’re becoming parents,” Mr Buttigieg wrote in the post. “We are delighted to welcome Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg to our family.”
The Buttigiegs announced in August that they had become parents. They didn’t provide any details, but Chasten, a middle school teacher and author, told The Washington Post in July that the two were trying to adopt.
