In a historic first for Sydney, the iconic Sydney Opera House will be lit up with the Progress Pride Flag to celebrate the beginning of Sydney WorldPride 2023.

Kicking off at 8:30 pm (AEDT), the Opera Hous sails will light up to mark the opening night of the festival, which will take place over 17 days, with over 500,000 participants expected to take part, including an estimated 78,000 visitors.

Described as Australia’s most diverse, inclusive and proudly LGBTQ+ city, Sydney will fittingly become the first in the Southern Hemisphere to host WorldPride, giving more people in the Asia-Pacific region than ever before the opportunity to experience WorldPride.

Along with the Opera House display, Sydney WorldPride’s Rainbow City activation will see 45 pieces of public art installed across Sydney to celebrate the first WorldPride in the Southern Hemisphere, including rainbows across the city including Bondi Beach, Coogee Beach and the Royal Botanic Gardens.
