polish rainbow masks
2 min read

Rainbow masks sewn by Jakub and David, well-known gay bloggers in Poland, have contributed to the fight against the coronavirus pandemic and homophobia in their country.

The pair have taken homophobes in their country head-on trying to remove the stigma that gay people are ‘the plague’ and do something positive during the coronavirus pandemic.

The pair wandered the streets of the tri-city towns of Gdańsk, Gdynia and Sopot, which are on the coast of Gdańsk Bay, Baltic Sea.

Speaking on their Facebook page, then men said they borrowed a sewing machine from one of their grandmothers and began to sew masks in order to give them away for free.

“Our masks are unique because they are rainbow! The tailor friend supported the idea, so 300 pieces were sewn with which we took to the streets of the city,” they said on Facebook.

“We distributed all 300 pieces during the recording of the material. Our dressmakers sew masks mainly for hospitals, but because there is still some rainbow material left, they managed to persuade them to sew an additional batch. You just need to be patient, because our health care is a priority.”

The pair record their own music videos for more and less known songs. Roxette, Mariah Carey, Beata Kozidrak and several hundred thousand viewers around the world have already loved them.

Their blog says they are primarily in love with each other. “Like others, but similar to two colours: blue and green. One full of energy and ideas like a rough sea – the other calm and sound like a rustling forest. The differences make us fascinate each other and the similarities bring us together.”

The video of their activities on the streets of Poland is below and already had more than 1 million views.
