As Taiwan is on the verge of becoming the first Asian country to legalize same-sex marriage, the newly crowned Mr. Gay Taiwan wants to help that process along as he heads for Spain in 2017.
Touya Xiao, 22, is the third Mr. Gay Taiwan representative from a country that is more progressive than many.
But the country still has its challenges and Xiao is determined to break the stereotypes.
The Mr. Gay Taiwan announcement was held during Taipei Pride back in October, in front of more than 82,000 people.
The student and contracted model, won his way through to the Mr. Gay World titles in Spain ahead of 1st Runner-Up was Justin Ling (37) and 2nd Runner-Up was Melvin Chen (31).
Touya Xiao hopes to break stereotypes in Taiwan from traditional people to acknowledge that the LGBTIQ people are human too and deserve equal rights.
“I hope that my efforts will just add towards our hopes and push to legalize same-sex marriage in Taiwan, and to become the first Asia nation to legalize same-sex marriage”, claimed Xiao on Facebook.
“Mr. Gay Taiwan has given me the platform to make out voice louder and we hope to make the Taiwanese society understand that love is for all.” #TaiwanOneLove
