Wellington Hairdresser Michael Beel has been announced as the New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year at a gala event at Sydney’s The Star.
The award was one of many announced at the 2015 Schwarzkopf Professional Hair Expo Awards, the longest running and most respected hair accolades in the Southern Hemisphere.
Beel, of Buoy Hairdressing is known for his edgy hair styling and this year was no exception after creating hair styles inspired by the Orient and looks from the 1930’s.
Beel won the award for the first time after entering for the past five years.
He shared the limelight with Dimitri Papas from Brisbane who took out the Australian Hairdresser of the Year who followed in the footsteps of his Dad and renowned hairdresser Stelios Papas who has previously won the coveted award.
The evening’s other big winners included Jules Tognini from AKA Togninis who took home three awards – Men’s Hairdresser/Barber of the Year, Educator of the Year and Photographic Collection of the Year.
This was the 30th anniversary of the Awards and the party is still going.
