Eikon’s Top 7 Male Surfers

2 min read

The shark incident this week on surfing’s biggest star has shed a light on how dangerous a sport surfing can be, we at Eikon decided to have a quick look at some of the worlds best male surfers and give our thoughts on the Top 7 male surfers.

7. Julian Wilson (Australian)

We start with Jules not just because he is incredibly hot, but he truly showed his softer side after the events with Mick Fanning and the shark earlier in the week. After breaking down in an interview the Aussie, who swam to Mick Fanning’s rescue during the shark attack, showed everyone how incredibly genuine and emotional he is. Apart from also be ranked third in the world and a great surfer.

6. Kelly Slater (American)

Are we allowed to create any list about surfers without listing Kelly Slater. The World Champion 11 times over, is still surging and showing the young guys how to do it.

5. Alejo Muniz (Brazilian)

He isnt the highest ranked surfer but what he lacks in titles he surely makes up in guts and amazingly good looks. This Brazillian has been scouting around the edges of the tour since 2011 but only now is everyone starting to wake up.

4. Jordy Smith (South African)

Jordan Michael “Jordy” Smith is our favourite surfer from South Africa, competing on the World Championship Tour, In 2007 Smith won surfing’s World Qualifying Series, the second-tier tour which leads to qualification for the WCT. The Durban born 27 year old is known for the manoeuvres “rodeo flip” and full rotation “alley-oops’ and featured in the film Blue Crush 2, he has been sponsored by O’Neill since 2007.

3. Ricardo Christie (New Zealander)

Ricardo Christie is the first New Zealander since Maz Quinn in 2001 to qualify for surfing’s elite tour, and to say he’s done things his own way would be an understatement. Ricardo (“It’s Richard, but my brothers called me Ricardo when I was young and it stuck…”) is a stylish, powerful surfer who burst onto the scene as a highly-touted junior, then one day seemingly vanished.

2. Adriano de Souza (Brazillian)

Number one in the world so has to get a place here. Superb boardrider, 28, he has been on the tour for 10 years and has made over a million dollars. Apart from being gorgeous he can surf.

1. Mick Fanning (Australian)

I mean seriously how could we not have a list of the best male surfers without listing the main man. Anyone who gets attacked by a shark, punches the shark and lives needs to be on any list ever. Apart from his shark wrestling, he is one rugged aussie guy, what more can we say.
