Fletcher Building has become New Zealand’s first construction and building materials company to achieve Rainbow Tick certification.

Rainbow Tick certification demonstrates a business is an inclusive organisation for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, takatapui and intersex.

Rainbow Tick’s Michael Stevens congratulated Fletcher Building for becoming New Zealand’s first construction and building materials company to be certified during an event celebrating the companies achievement.

“We were surprised when Fletcher Building contacted us as we hadn’t thought to approach a construction company which shows even at the Rainbow Tick we need to challenge our own stereotypes of what sort of organisations want to be inclusive,” explained Michael Stevens.

Michael Stevens added that the Rainbow Tick certification sends a clear message from the leadership of Fletcher Building that it is a safe place for employees to fully be themselves at their place of work.

Fletcher Building Chief Executive Officer Mark Adamson said that he was proud of the team who worked so hard on the project, and explained how the company was required to undergo a six-month audit in order to achieve the certification.

“As the Chairman of Fletcher Building’s Diversity Council it makes me proud we have achieved this certification as it’s an indication of the importance we place on diversity in our workplace,” Mr Adamson said.
