The latest music video by Taylor Swift, that was actually filmed in New Zealand, premiered during the New Year’s Eve telecast from New York City on Thursday night.
Ryan Seacrest hosted the annual show which was broadcast from Times Square for American Network ABC and it was the perfect platform for Tay Tay to drop the “Out of the Woods” music video.
The stunning four minute production is more like a feature film than a music video and features a number of New Zealand locations from Auckland, Waitakere Ranges and Queenstown.
Swift revealed just last week that the long-awaited video would premiere on New Year’s Eve. The song was first released more than a year ago on the superstar’s record-breaking album 1989.
Swift has a huge gay following, not just for her music but because she has been a strong supporter of gay rights and marriage equality.
In 2014 she publicized her support for marriage equality with lyrics in “Welcome to New York.”
With “Welcome to New York,” Swift joined the slew of artists discussing gay rights. Swift sings, “And you can want who you want/ Boys and boys and girls and girls.”
And in 2015, when the Supreme Court Marriage Equality case was announced Swift tweeted her support for the decision using the same quote.

Interesting that she chose Seacrest to announce the video, seeing as last year Swift and Seacrest were the centre of rumours about a relationship, but more interestingly, “Out Of The Woods” seems to be one of several songs on the record about the singer’s failed relationship with Harry Styles.
The lyrics contain several allusions to their romance, including a reference to an accident they were in together.
Now long after their relationship has become gossip history, the video has debuted on “New Year’s Rockin’ Eve,” which coincidentally also featured a performance from Styles and One Direction.
And in 2013, Styles accompanied Swift when she performed on the program. Two years later, Styles is currently on a holiday vacation with Kendall Jenner. Swift is dating Calvin Harris, but it’s not clear where she is ringing in the new year.
“Out Of The Woods” is the sixth single from 1989, and the video follows clips for “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” “Style” (also believed to be about Styles), “Bad Blood,” and “Wildest Dreams.”
