Transgender Man, Aydian Dowling has been announced as runner-up in the final round of the US Men’s Health Ultimate Guy competition.
The Ultimate Guy competition had over 900 competitors all vying for the title and the chance to appear on the cover of the November 2015 issue of US Men’s Health magazine.
Competitors were judged on whether they possess all of the qualities that make up today’s well rounded, active, health conscious and thoughtful guy.
Despite not taking out the title, Dowling had still managed to receive the most votes in the Readers Choice section, obtaining over 72,000 votes, which is more that double the amount of the next closest contestant.
Dowling explains that he is obviously disappointed that he did not win however believes that the competition was an amazing experience.
“Of course I hold feelings of disappointment for what could have been an amazing opportunity for our visibility as a community. The work we have put in the last six months was and is still completely relevant to our movement to full transgender rights and equality.”
“I would like to fully congratulate the winner- Tim, and all the other guys who shared this amazing journey with me!”
“For their dedication to their communities and for the new family we have created. I would also like to thank each and every one of the over 72,000 people who voted a transman to the number 1 spot on the readers choice list!”
Dowling added, “Please do remember that this fight for transgender rights, inclusivity, and visibility is not over.
“Our community, together with our allies, have made a big mark in the minds and hearts of the mainstream media.
“We joined together and showed that we have a voice that is loud and proud! Let’s continue this fight and together we will all be embraced for our journey to authenticity.”
Dowling became the first trans person to feature on a Men’s Health Cover when he and the four other finalists featured on “Special Collectors Edition” of Men’s Health for the Ultimate Guy competition.
