A school teacher has been chosen as the Philippines delegate for the 2016 Mr. Gay World Competition.
The 30-year-old Christian Reyes Lacsamana from San Fernando, Pampanga (North of Manila) was chosen by the country’s Director Wilbert Tolentino, who himself was Mr. Gay World in 2009.
According to local news outlets, Christian has been training in pageant skills since January.
He has also been busy finalizing his wardrobe which includes a spectacular national costume inspired by the Moriones Festival and the iconic jeepney.
A staunch advocate of “Love Yourself Uni,” the HIV testing community centre that offers confidential HIV testing, counseling and peer education services, Christian vows to do his best to represent the Philippines at the Mr. Gay World finals and advance his causes on equal rights for the LGBT community and the fight against the HIV menace and hopefully, become the first Filipino and Asian to win the title outright.
The reigning Mr. Gay World is Mass Luciano, who represented Hong Kong at the Mr. Gay World finals in South Africa last May. Luciano actually finished second but assumed the title after the winner Klaus Burkart of Germany had to resign his title last November.
Speaking about the nominee, Tolentino said he chose Christian because, “Aside from being good-looking and a good speaker, Christian is the reigning Mr. Fahrenheit (Bar and Spa) and the first runner-up at the Mr. Pogay contest of ABS CBN’s noontime show “It’s Showtime.”
This Philippines nominee will join delegates from around the globe in Malta for the finals of Mr Gay World between the 19 – 23 April.
Eikon’s very own Matt Fistonich will be reporting exclusively from Malta for Eikon for the entire week of the competition.
