The move from Youtube star to musical genius continues for Troye Sivan as he took the award for Outstanding Music Artist at the 27th Annual GLAAD Media Awards in Los Angeles on Saturday evening.

The 20-year-old Australian capped off an amazing 12 months by winning the award at the Beverley Hilton Hotel ahead of a star-studded audience including Taylor Swift who later in the night caught Sivan in a sandwich between herself and Ruby Rose in an Instagram photo.

Troye released his first studio album Blue Neighbourhood in December 2015 and it reached number six on the Australian charts and seventh on the American charts.

His GLAAD Award comes as he is on a charm offensive across America which has included an interview and feature pics in OUT Magazine, a performance and comedy skit with James Corden on the Late Late Show and an expected performance on Ellen’s show this week.

Fellow Australian Ruby Rose was also recognised overnight winning one of the major GLAAD awards, the Stephen F. Kolzak award, presented to “an LGBT media professional who has made a significant difference in promoting equality and acceptance”.

Her award was presented by her friend Talor Swift who made a surprise appearance at the awards.

The “Blank Space” singer took the stage at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles to introduce the actress, who was honored with the Stephen F. Kolzak award. Swift looked stunning in a long-sleeve, navy blue Haney gown.

“Tonight I’m here to honor someone who, through her words and through her actions, proves that she is a force of nature,” Swift said after a taking the stage to the roar of the surprised audience. “She tells the world that no one can judge us and no one can stop us. She is a woman of many talents and she is my friend.”

“Ruby breaks down barriers and opens up opportunities for all people, but most importantly, young LGBT people all over the world,” Swift continued.

Rose, 30, embraced Swift as she came up to accept the award and the actress seemed legitimately moved by the 26-year-old singer’s touching introduction and unexpected appearance.

Rose, who gained fame as a fashion model and MTV VJ, is perhaps best known for her role as Stella on the Netflix original series Orange Is the New Black.
