A Turkish newspaper with links to the nation’s president has described the victims of the attacks on Pulse bar in Orlando, Florida as “Perverts” and “Deviants.”

The newspaper Yeni Akit who appears to celebrate the attack on innocent civilians is known for its Islamist views and its ties with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

It’s article titled “Death toll rises to 50 in bar where perverted homosexuals go! has sparked outrage and condemnation on social media throughout the world, with many speculating that the use of an exclamation mark shows that the newspaper is celebrating the attack.

With the publication being fined in 2012 over comments published in 2008, which described gay people as “perverts,” the homophobic and hateful article is the latest in a string of anti-LGBTI propaganda from Yeni Akit.

Since 2012 experts have found hundreds of examples of hate throughout its pages, with targets and scapegoats including Jews, Armenians, communists, atheists, secularists, feminists and LGBTI people.
