There is a doctor in the house, he is from Thailand and he is heading to Mr. Gay World to put a spell over his fellow delegates and come home with the title in Thailand’s fifth attempt.
Pattanajuk Vipadakul won the high-quality Mr. Gay Thailand competition in front of a huge crowd at the Celebrity Club in Bangkok in late November, but since that moment he has been working hard to be ready for the world finals in Spain in May.
Eikon spoke with Vipadakul three weeks out from the finals and he’s excited about being a good Thailand representative.
“I hope I can learn more about the LGBT world, exchange comments that I can adapt to Thai society,” Vipagakul explained.
“I want to open my mind for the new thing from the competition program such as Thai LGBT knowledge, friendship from the contestants, how to work with LGBT people and the experience that I never touch before.”
The 30-year-old, that was born in Bangkok and grew up in the North Eastern Regional city of Udonthani, said he never stops learning and believes being part of this whole process has helped him develop more as a person.
“I never stop to develop myself. I never stop learning the new things.
“Maybe I’m a medical doctor, but as long as humans still have ailments then how can doctor stop working.”
The Thailand competition involved many different stages including interviews, catwalks, and fundraising for local HIV groups.
For Vipadakul it was an eye opening experience to find out more about the Thai LGBT people and prepare him for Spain.
“I have to study and read more about Thai LGBT such as the history, the law, and social phenomenal.
“Although I am a medical doctor, I have some knowledge of LGBT people but that have only health and disease.
“I don’t know much about LGBT social, law and lifestyle. It’s my weak point I have to improve my knowledge.”
And when speaking about his competition he only has positive thoughts.
“They are very friendly. I think we’re not the competition but we’re a big family.”
Pattanajuk Vipadakul is one of 20 delegates heading to the Mr. Gay World finals to be held in Spain from 5-10 May.
